Wedding Pictures!

So we're never going to be on Martha Stewart's list of best-dressed weddings.  How do I know this?  Well, for one thing, I had never heard of Martha Stewart until I shopped for a wedding planner, a fact which horrified the sales clerk at the time.  That, right there, should tell you we're not on the same wave length.  But I'm betting Martha never had that much fun at her wedding!

The Story

Edmund and Sophie, never content with doing things the easy way, had not one but three weddings.  Well, kind of.  Since they and a large number of their friends lived in California, but Sophie's family and the rest of her friends lived in Québec, it was pretty clear no single location was going to win good attendance from both groups.  So Edmund and Sophie got married in front of a justice of the peace with just their friends Steve Wilson and Dorene Giacopini as witnesses, hopped on a plane to Montreal, and had a wedding party in Quebec.  Then they came back and had what they consider to be their official wedding, regardless of what it says in the paperwork, as a nonconformist ceremony in northern California.

The wedding was a really a three-day affair on Labour Day weekend 1996 (yes, it's taken us a while to get a page together.)  We invited our friends and family to camp with us for the weekend at a very quiet (6 spots!) campsite which is part of the Redwood National and State Parks, Big Lagoon, or to stay at one of the several lovely Bed & Breakfasts in nearby Trinidad.  Here is what the weekend looked like:

The very cool thing was that after a weekend of fun together, people we knew from different walks of life had come together to form a group.  We had such a wonderful time, we wish we could get married more often!

The People

The pictures were taken by everyone at the wedding, since we had distributed disposable cameras to everyone; but the two official photographers (who took the pictures during the ceremony itself) were Paul von Fisher and Pam Rasada.  Maureen Pisani also videotaped the ceremony and the stag party.  Here are the friends who participated in this weeknd event:

The Funny Bits

Some of the uncommon tidbits relating to our wedding (all true, by the way).  [Story links coming soon, promise!] And you know what?  Some of the best stories didn't even make it to this Web page...

Note:
This page is still under construction; we have a bunch more pictures to scan, and stories to write.  Created 15 August 2001.
