Wedding Pictures: The Ceremony
Dear Pig, are you willing, to sell for one shilling
Your ring?' Said the Piggy, 'I will.'
So they took it away, and were married next day,
By the Turkey who lives on the hill.(Well, it really wasn't a turkey in our case, much the opposite, but thus goes the story... Plus, he roasted us on Saturday night, so there.)
Our ceremony was very home-made. We'd already taken care of
the paperwork with a justice of the peace, so we figured we could concentrate
on what gave it spiritual meaning to us. Yes, it sounds New Agey,
deal with it. It wasn't all fun and games you know...
We had our friend Steve Wilson, a brilliant speaker and a great person, officiate. Eric Hutchins was best man; Steve, Maureen, and Brian Pisani chose and gave the first reading (William Shakespeare's ___th sonnet); Jeff Combos, Karen Partridge, and a praying mantis hand puppet (very reassuring...) gave the second reading (Edward Lear's The Owl and the Pussy-Cat); and Dr. Rick Botzler gave some wonderful words on the several meanings of intimacy.
We had written into the ceremony a number of symbols that had meaning for us. The location was one, and the procession through the redwoods; another was to drink from the Zuni wedding vase; and the sharing of the flame from the wedding candle. One very special element was the represented by the rings: Sophie received from Edmund a ring that had been his grandmother's, and Edmund received the ring that had belonged to Sophie's grandfather. We had also written our vows (and even ad libbed a bit on them.)
(More pictures to come, many more!)
