Night Shift

Lieutenant Therius
|
Lieutenant Therius Primitivus Justus is a Centaur from Nova Roma. His father was a centaur, his mother was a Nubian. He "requested" transfer to Top Ten three years ago after some (as yet unnamed) trouble.
Lt. Therius is now in charge of the branch of NeoPD's Special Operations Bureau charged with investigating the Neopolis drug war that has followed Dr. Gromolko's death. Unfortunately, he recently learned of the escape of his nemesis from Nova Roma, "The Caligulator".

Here’s a picture of Lt. Therius (note the careful cropping to avoid the horsy portions. You will also note that he is clothed – must have been an inspection on the day the photo was taken). Needless to say in the Night Shift movie he will be played by Denzel Washington (with some heavy CG of course – maybe we can use that horse that played in “Seabiscuit”).
Therius' 3x5
FRIENDS/ALLIES
- Judge Fred
- The night judge at Neopolis Superior Court. He's the guy who signs subpoenas and issues search warrants. He likes Therius because Therius has a good record for getting results for his paperwork, and tends to trust him (though after the Skip Sparkypants incident this trust has been somewhat strained).
- Faustulus
- The other Nova Roma cop on Neopolis PD, Faustulus is a patrol officer working with the Neo-PD Canine unit. Therius is something of a mentor to him. He works the day shift though, so the best they can do is meet for an occasional breakfast.
- Will "Ambush Boy" Adams
- Formerly a boy superhero, now a middle aged accountant, Adams is Therius' upstairs neighbor. A jovial guy who nonetheless is somewhat wistful about the "good old days".
ENEMIES
- Aggripina Flavia
- Lt. Therius' ex-wife. Priestess of Vesta. Think of her as the centaur version of Martha Stewart. Currently living on Nova Roma.
- The Calligulator
- Deodatus Titus Valerius, a serial killer in Nova Roma who was also a Nova Roman senator. Busted and crippled by Therius back when he worked on the Nova Roma PD, he escaped before trial and has not been seen or heard of in several years. He believes himself to be the reincarnation of Emperor Calligula.
- Baron von Struk
- A mid-level Nazi supervillain brought over to help the other Nazi supervillains build Neopolis after the war. He isn't a super genius scientist or anything, more akin to the Nazi version of Captain America, and was primarily involved in security. Disappeared with all the rest when they went underground. Lt. Therius' pursuit of the Brain Beast of Berlin has recently brought him to Baron von Struk's attention.
CONTACTS
- GUNGAR - 1
- A ferro-American who is Therius gangland contact. He's a small time operator who deals mostly with fencing and prostitution.
- Ionaus Pettew
- A "Hungarian American with an inherited medical condition" who runs the all-night deli down the street from Therius. He's not involved in any criminal activities (except for paying protection money and an occasional illegal bet) but he does give Therius occasional tidbits of information about what is happening in the bloodsucker community. Therius frequently grabs a sandwich and coffee there before work.
- Irma Grese
- Therius downstairs neighbor, an old German woman who knows a lot about Nazis, having lived through WWII. If Therius knew what she really DID in WWII he wouldn't be so happy to stop by for tea and cookies occasionally.
PLACES
- Therius' condo
- A normal, run of the mill condo in Little Budapest. Therius' wife put a curse on it during one of their spats over alimony payments, so there are constant problems with it now (heater breaks down in winter, stove burns the food, etc.)
- Praet's
- A cop bar in Nova Roma but not THE cop bar. Mostly for cops who are unpopular on the force for various reasons. Therius used to hang out there.
- Therius' office
- A reasonable sized office by most standards, a tiny cubby by centaur standards. Watching Therius get into and out of it when full-sized can be highly amusing to passers by - once - and he has resorted to using the power of his amulet to make himself smaller when working there. Therius keeps everything incredibly well organized, and there is a joke going around that the cleaning staff has not had to so much as empty the trash since he moved in. The office currently has all the character of a cardboard box - Therius keeps almost no personal items there, save for a small (dashboard icon sized) statue of Selene on his desk.
- Snowtown
- Snowtown was around before Neopolis was built, and was more or less absorbed by the science city. It now exists on the lowest level, perpetually shadowed by the gravity rings, and often shrouded in cold fog from the Neopolis weather control devices. Powers DO NOT WORK in Snowtown. Nobody knows why (super science analysis doesn't work there either). Snowtown is inhabited by the down and out who either a) don't have powers but want to live in Neopolis anyway, b) have powers but hate them and want them gone, c) were living here when Neopolis was built, or are the descendants of people who were living here when Neopolis was built.
ORGANIZATIONS
- United Nations Science Hero Protection Force (UNSHPROFOR)
- An multi-national organization sponsored by the United Nations, charged with locating Science Heroes in dimension 10 and either relocating them to Neopolis or deporting them to another dimension. UNSHPROFOR employs Science Heroes of its own, and these are the only Science Heroes legally able to use their powers outside the Neopolis City Limits. Of the nations on Dimension 10 only Taiwan and Vatican City do not recognize UNSHPROFOR authority.
- The Fanboys
- The largest street gang of Snowtown. They are pretty feral and predatory, and delight in catching science hero types on their territory. They are seldom seen by day, and tend to favor travelling by alleys and sewers. Rumors of cannibalism have not been confirmed.
- Murray's Dimension Marts
- A local Neopolis chain specializing in food from other dimensions. It's sort of a mom and pop grocery of the weird. Mostly it stocks things that are easily portable and don't spoil easily, but the variety is - um - overwhelming so long as you palate isn't picky.
