The Parsifal
Unfortunately, the various
books discussing Bayernese passenger airships (Castle Falkenstein, Comme
Il Faut, and Steam Age) give contradictory information.
Here is my attempt at piecing things together so that the airships are
dramatic yet not grossly unbelievable.
The Koeniglich Luftschwansa of Bayern has only four ships: Princess
Sophie, Parsifal, King Maximillian, and Siegfried, according
to Comme Il Faut, with the Princess Sophie being the flagship.
These are all said to serve routes from Central New Europa to New York
City. However, I reassigned one, the Parsifal,
to the new Oriental Express line, connecting various cities of New Europa.
Here is is the schedule.
Basic Design
After the interesting discussion on the topic
on the Falkenstein mailing list, I still had a lot to piece together.
I was not all that interested in building a 'real' airship, i.e., one that
would meet physical requirements in our world. It seemed to me the
Falkensteinian magic would take care a lot of problems such as lift and
speed, but 'my' airship still had to have some consistence. I wanted
a floating palace with elegant dining rooms and suites, a flying transatlantic.
I opted for the following characteristics:
-
12 decks
-
Hull: 122 m long, or about 400 ft, by about 150 ft (45 m) high (including
cargo space)
-
Gas bag: filled with helium
-
Capacity: 260 passengers, 100 crew
-
One royal suite, fifteen first-class cabins, thirty second-class cabins,
and ninety-six third-class cabins
-
Accomodations: see the KLB brochure

in a visit of the Parsifal.
