Gossip Over Diner

Formal dinner almost requires some gossip about the current state of affairs (and affairs of state) in the heavily interconnected royal families of New Europa.  One simply must be up to date on Victoria und Albert, Vicky and The Kaiser !
New Europa in the Victorian days is enamoured with gadgets, but this sometimes takes surprising forms.  The ever-present dance card, for example.  Were you imagining some staid little notebook?  Have a look at The Dance Card Museum of Antiques ...  Dance cards can take the shape of almost any object, including many that would be difficult to carry to the ball!  This craze will last well through the century and into the early nineteen hundreds.

And if you still doubt the appeal that gadgets, knick-knacks and trinkets hold for Victorians, you should read this article from Harper's Bazar on New Cotillion Favors for the Season.   It's a little late for the period, but perfectly in character for New Europa.
