Living Free in California

It isn't found on most maps.  Its government is unrecognized.  Its territory is claimed by both Tir Tarngire and the California Free State.  Nevertheless the political and social entity known as the Humboldt Nation has existed formally since 2037 and informally long before California left the UCAS.  Somme people consider it the freest place on earth.  Some people think of it as nothing more than the pipe dream of fools and idealists, ripe for destruction.

Politics

California Free State is trying to assert control over the area and keeps giving corporations license to set up magical research facilities, which irritates the residents no end.  The Tir continues to threaten to invade.  Hestaby the dragon (from Mount Shasta) has made noises about claiming the area.  Humboldt Nation does not get along with NAN because of a vocal Hoopa minority in the area that is resentful that their tribal lands got traded away in the Treaty of Denver so a bunch of Utes and Pueblos could get their own country.  HNs only real allies are the UCAS and CAS which aren't interested in watching the entire west coast interrupt into a slugfest which they fear will happen if the Tir invades HN again (which would cause Cal Free and Salish-Sidhe to intervene which would lead to God knows what).

Geography

There are lots of honking big trees in the HN and they grow really fast.  The forests are full of magical beasties and are great places to harvest telesma (basic ingredients for magical items).  There is also a major toxic zone at the old Hoopa reservation, that was used as a research facility by Shiawase until something contaminated the heck out of it.

Main exports are telesma and pot.
