D'AUBAINNE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
One of the greatest architectural works to be found
on Al Amarja, the D'Aubainne International Airport, known locally as "The
Terminal" was constructed by Jean-Christophe D'Aubainne (son of Her Exaltedness)
and first opened for business in 1981. It serves as the only commercial
air hub to the island.
Towering above the runways, the airport terminal
at first appears as an enormous funnel, the color of gleaming and polished
bone. It mushrooms our from ground level in a series of nine ever-larger
circular floors, each smooth and windowless.
