Life in Erengazor

Once day to day survival had been assured the Throalic dwarves and Theran humans looked about and realized that they were a small minority in a group that consisted largely of tribal humans, tribal windlings, and tribal orks.  Only the t'skrang crew of the Tarrnarr and some of the refugees were "civilized", and the t'skrang immediately went into hibernation and so were unavailable to assist with the running of the kaer.  The various tribal factions almost immediately fell to squabbling among themselves, while the Therans and Throalites argued over who would lead.  At times it appeared that the intransigence of its inhabitants would doom Gazor's Kaer as surely as the Horrors would have.

As time passed, however, the dwarves of Throal eventually won the upper hand and gradually took over the government of the kaer.  Because of their long lifespan they were able to plan futher ahead than their human counterparts from Thera, and worked for the first ten years of the kaer's existence to put a comprehensive education system on the Throalic model in place.  Few books were available and there was little material with which to build them.  What developed instead was an education system that borrowed heavily from tribal oral tradition, where information was memorized and passed down from generation to generation.  In order to combat both the cultural strife and the boredom of life in the kaer (and to further safeguard against the possibility of Horrors infiltrating the kaer), frequent celebrations and festivals were arranged in which individuals and groups could channel their pent-up energy into healthy competition and at which everyone could demonstrate by their creative skills that they were free of Horror taint.

Eren Spellsmith presided over the Kaer for more than seventy years, leaving behind her a legacy of cooperation and mutual racial understanding that largely persists in the community to this day.  A memorial to her life and work are preserved in the central meeting area of the kaer.  Years after her death, in honor of her work, the Kaer was renamed Eren/Gazor kaer and over the last hundred years that has been shortened to the community's current name of Erengazor1.

1 Originally this would have been pronounced "EH-ren-GAY-zor" but local pronunciation has shifted the accent to "eh-REN-ga-Zor".  Return.
