Legends:
Cairngorm's Karma Ritual
Cairngorm speaks of his karma ritual...
"In renewing karma, one must realize how all things
are woven together, threads we have little knowledge
of. The act of forging shows how these threads are
bound, symbolizing all of Barsave and the natural
world. First, we take the earth, iron. Iron
represents Obsidimen and their connection to the
earth. The iron is heated in the forge fire. The
fire symbolizes the passion of the orcs, quick and
hot. Once the iron has been heated, it is removed
from the fire and struck by a hammer on an anvil. The
hammer symbolizes the dwarves, and their labor with
tools. The anvil symbolizes the trolls, strong and
from the earth. The iron is placed back into the
fire, and air is blown into the fire. The air
symbolizes the windlings, whose mastery of the air
affects those on earth. The iron becomes white hot.
This state of the iron symbolizes the elves, whose
beauty gives the iron its durability. The iron is
then quickly cooled in the water, and broken. This act
symbolizes the humans, whose minds reside in the
fleeting present, always striving to create something
new and better. It is all of these things – the
elements, the Name Givers – that shape the path of
Obsidimen, and the world. It is through all of these
that the karma of the world is renewed. So here ends
the ritual."
