Characters

A compendium of the saga's characters, and particularly of the Covenant members.

Magi

Etienne de Poussant, follower of Tremere
Etienne was 20 and crusading in the Holy Land when the Gift up and smacked him (blatant Gift).  He had know idea what was going on, and prayed for guidance.  He was sent to Rome on a pilgrimige, where a bishop recognized the Gift and pronounced Etienne a demon-spawned, hellbound abomination and banished Etienne from the Church.  Etienne fled back home (Aquitaine), where his father promptly kicked him out of the family.  There he was found by a Magus and offered a home at the covenant in House Tremere.  There, he had the overwhelming joy of taking classes with ten-year olds while being tutored by fourteen-year-olds.  He is now 35, just graduating as a Magi, and has a driving ambition to win the martial fame that was denied him.
Terrance, follower of Mercere
His best Art is Creo.
Zianna, follower of Mercere, Mutantes lineage
Seventeen-year old member of an obscure offshoot of the Mutante line of House Mercere with unusual but somewhat chaotic magic.  As soon as her abilities manifested, she was taken from her family and apprenticed, without any regard for her feelings about the matter.  She's secretly afraid of her gift and destiny, but displaces those feelings and turns them into resentment -- she's a teenager, halfway through her apprenticeship, and it feels like this schooling will never end...

Grogs

Apeon
A strong, simple-minded man-at-arms – and dowser
Catalin the Shrew
Catalin's hand was promised by her father to a man she despised. Ortzi was much older than her, and had already buried two wives — some said that his brutality was to blame for their early deaths.  Catalin, whose fiery temper was well known in her home town, swore that she would not be Ortzi's.  When he tried to beat her into submission, she was ready: she came back at him with a grinding mortar and fractured his skull, then ran away.
She was quickly captured and branded for the near-murder of her fiance.  In anger, she took to the life of a "road agent", joining a group of bandits in the mountains.  She was lucky to escape recapture and a much more severe penalty when most of the band was caught by the local baron's forces.  Wandering alone, she eventually ended up at Reservo Scientia, where she found relative safety from the law.
Deunoro
Grizzled veteran
Herefirb
"The Grog's Grog"
Leonardo
The wolf-boy ratcatcher.  He was raised feral, but as a young teenager he was captured by a Moorish prince and trained as a wild-man warrior.  Leonardo (or "Ardo" as he prounonces it) hated that life, and escaped to the Covenant.  The Covenant left him along, gave him a place to live, and let him slowly come into human society.  As a result, he's fanatically devoted to the Covenant.  Ardo has no desire to return to the wild; he knows he's not a wolf.  (Leonardo = "Leonardo the Lion-Man")
Mikolas
"The Wall that Speaks"
Reginal the Doomed-to-Die-Horribly
Obese, brave, obedient, and depressed.
Thibault of Aquitaine
Covenant scribe
Xarles the Golden
Resident covenant linguist
