The Chronicle:

Letter from Constanza Aldana y Orduño to Melisandre Raphaela de Ramirez

Estancia Santa Cruz de Orduño, ducado de Aldana, 19th day of Corantine, 1668

Dear Melisandre,

I should not be encouraging you to risk your life and disobey your family, but -- run!  I shudder at the thought of an arranged marriage...  Who is this Don Miguel?  Why does your father believe the man would be a suitable husband for you?

If you go to El Moro, you may end up encounter my cousins, Lucas and Juan.  Surely you remember Lucas, and his terrible grades in professor Arciniega's classes?  And Juan is from the Orduño side of the family.  They are travelling with a strange and wild man, an Ussuran, Baronet Vlad Nikolovich.  I would have joined them, if these wounds were not keeping me in bed still.  Be happy you did not come with me after all, you would have ended up meeting the dread pirate Reis!  Soon, though, I hope to be better and catch up with my cousins.  Perhaps I can see you again when I reach El Moro!  That would be wonderful.

Be very careful in your travels, I pray you.

Your old friend,

Constanza Aldana y Orduño de Altamira
