First, here is a very nice cutaway illustration of a ship, made by Spiderfox for the game Furry Pirates (it works just as well here.) Used with permission. Here is a nice link that shows a Ship's
Rigging (square-rigged, of course.) Technically, anything less
than three masts and not square-rigged is not a ship, but we often end
up slipping. Oops. The sources used here for "official" ships'
stats are listed, because of course depending on which book you look them
up in, they don't match. Sigh. Finally, you can read a review
of the ship design and combat system here.
