Aldana Steel
Maps of Théah:
Freiburg
The "Free City" of Nicklaus Trägue has become an unexpected success,
but it is uncertain if it will last with the greedy eyes of the other Eisenfürsten.
Built on the site of the ruined Steil military fortress. The königreich
of Freiburg is the smallest of the Eisen princedoms, and the city of Freiburg
proper is its heart and only settlement of note. The rest of the
königreich
is really just a large extension of the city. Freiburg is situated
at the node of two crucial trade routes into Eisen, the confluence of the
Rostrom River into the Roth River.
The heroes first visited Freiburg on their way back from Ussura during
the Scoundrel's Folly adventure, and boarded the Drake there.
Then Don Lucas was assigned to Freiburg as ambassador
pro tem in the fall of 1668, until Primus 1669. They returned in Quartus 1669 for a brief but eventful visit.
Red dots indicate sites featured during the campaign. The sites
of interest are listed below.

-
The Bone Bridge: Large crossing over the Rostrom River,
constructed from the skeleton of a fallen drachen.
- Cafe Kaffee: A popular coffeehouse in The Greens.
- The Candlelit: University district of Freiburg, largely populated by students.
- The Captain's Cabin: A riverside inn decorated in the "pirate" motif in The Stein, where most of the patrons are aspiring young Eisen nobles. Allende and Constanza caused quite a stir by dropping in one evening.
-
New Castillan Embassy: the new mansion purchased by Don Lucas to
house the Castillan embassy after Drachenheim Manse was turned over to
Eisenfürst Trague and the City of Freiburg.
-
Drachenheim Manse: The mansion which was used until recently as
the embassy of Castille. The heroes lodged there while don Lucas
was ambassador.
-
Exquisite Tastes: Melisandre's favourite restaurant, in The Greens.
-
The Fox's Den: Inn and private club operated by a Castillan, and
the only place to get good Castillan wine and food in Freiburg.
- The Greens: The wealthy area of Freiburg.
-
Heart of Drachen Cathedral: Fourteenth century church in Freiburg
built around the ribcage of a drachen skeleton, a golden cross sitting
on top of the raised tail. After he gave the beast its coup de
grâce, Ferdinand donated the skull of a drachen to the cathedral
for a shrine to be built in honour of Saint Gregor (thus gaining much popularity)
-
The House of Stone: An inn and drinking establishment in The Candlelit.
- Love's Apothecary: Potion shop owned by Cleo Bellini.
-
The Shade: Bad part of town, where Melisandre has opened a free
clinic.
- The Stein: The medieval fortress surrounding the Wachturm, which houses the city government.
-
Verzweiflung: "Desperation," the shantytown that has encircled
the city; conditions are much worse here than in Freiburg.
-
Wachturm: The "Watchtower" in the centre of Freiburg, from
which Trägue in theory runs the city. The enormous Syrneth construction
is built from drachen bones and has two permanent Porté gateways
granting access to the top floors.
