Your acquaintance or family tie with a character named Lucas causes you no end of trouble, even when the character is far away.
Adventuring Companion (1 pt): You are repeatedly snubbed or dumped, e.g., abandoned in the middle of firefights while wounded and/or a prisoner of the enemy, by a character named Lucas.
Family (2 pts): Every other swordsman you meet wants to duel you, and non-swordsmen want you assassinated, because you are related to Lucas. Add three raises to the difficulty of all your social rolls with people who know Lucas.
Loved One (3 pts): You eventually get stalked, poisoned, kidnapped,
tortured, and painfully murdered because of your acquaintance with Lucas.
Not recommended for Player Characters.
Adventuring Companion (1 pt): A character named Juan repeatedly disappears in the middle of action, leaving you without his firepower.
Extended Family (2 pts): You are on the Inquisition's Watch List even if you are the most pious individual in the world because of your family tie with Juan. Add three raises to the difficulty of all your social rolls with the Church.
Immediate Family (3 pts): You eventually get stalked, kidnapped,
tortured, painfully murdered, and burned because of your family relation
with Juan. Not recommended for Player Characters.
This Background can only be taken at the 4 pts level. You will eventually be betrayed or sold to one of your most lethal enemies by a character named Ferdinand. If you manage to survive long enough to resolve the Background (i.e., Ferdinand dies before you do), the Background is immediately replaced by another similar one (Foul Weather Fergus, Foul Weather Ricardo, etc.) Not recommended for Player Characters.
