Under an obvious pseudonym, Espada claims to be the son of the true master and founder of the Aldana school. He further claims that his father was cheated and falsely accused by Millano Rios de Aldana, the man who is reputed to have rejuvenated the Aldana school some thirty years ago – Lucas's grandfather.
He challenged Lucas to a duel, but by mutual agreement the bout
has been postponed for now, because of the threat posed to Gosse by the Black
Freighter. He was grievously wounded when the Black Freighter attacked the Unchartered Course. He then followed Philippe Gosse on the Toro Rojo.
Torvo's story was later found to be true: Don Julian Rivera y Rios really had been responsible for the development of the Aldana School.
