The Selkie Seldane fell in love with Lucas during the year he was Meryth's prisoner under the sea (while a changelling impersonated him on dry land). Lucas learned of Seldane and her love during the Quest for te Graal, in 1669.
To most mortal eyes, Seldane appears as a beautiful young woman with long hair (although Constanza reports seeing only a seal.)
Being a Selkie, Seldane can only leave the sea for one day a year, on summer solstice. Every year Lucas comes to the shores of Avalon to be with her for that day.
