Known as "the Gentleman Pirate", a famous Avalon pirate who made his career a few decades ago. He was said to treat prisoners honourably, and only took part of the cargo of ships he captured. Captain Gosse was reputed to have an honourable rivalry with Captain Simeon Rivera y Orduño, Constanza's father. The two swashbucklers fought repeatedly, but were friends and drank to one another's health.
Gosse has been reputed dead these last twenty years, although the reports of his death have been greatly exaggerated. The heroes met him and his new crew along the trade routes south of Castille. Constanza told him of the Prophecy, and the heroes helped Gosse against his mortal enemy, Captain Robert de Méchant. Together they rescued Philip's daughter Melinda from the clutches of the villain, and destroyed his weapon, the Spear of the West Wind.
After helping Allende and Constanza against the Crimson Rogers in Freiburg, Gosse captured El Toro Rojo, the Castillan-built frigate the heroes had been forced to purchase for Pösen during the Freiburg peace negotiations earlier that year.
