Impératrice Morella Caligari de Montaigne was Empereur Léon's third wife, and a Fate Witch. She bore him three daughters, but no son, and none of her daughters show more than a trace of sorcerous potential. It was rumoured that the Empereur was growing tired of her. He refused to heed her warnings when she foresaw his doom.
When she announced to Don Lucas that the Empereur would die, pleading with him to protect the Dauphin Pascal, Baron Rémy de Montaigne coldly executed her on suspicion of conspiracy against the Empereur. The heroes suspect that the Baron intends to have the murder blamed on Lucas, but since the populace of Charouse revolted that same evening and set fire to the Palais Royal, it may be some time before things are sorted out.
