Ferdinand is a Castillan commoner who undertook to better himself. Played by Ken Grey.
Ferdinand de la Reina del Mar made a name for himself fighting in the Castillan army against the Montaigne invaders with great skill in bravery, and earned the rank of corporal. After his final battle at La Ultima Muralla, he was commended by the King for his actions. Since then, he has taken to travelling with a group of young Castillans, accompanying then-ambassador pro tem to Freiburg don Lucas de Aldana. In the sewers of Freiburg, the heroes fought a fearsome monster and in the fight Ferdinand was beheaded. Nevertheless, a miracle of St. Gregor, patron of monster hunters, brought Ferdinand back to life with new obligations. Since then, Ferdinand has been seeking and fighting monsters throughout Théah.
Ferdinand stands about 5'8", approximately 215 lbs. He has jet black hair that has seen better days, it's strung out in spots and ragged over the rest of his head. He's got a slim face and his cheeks are slightly drawn in. Until recently, he has a scar on his left cheek from sword play that ran in a straight line, and his right ear was somewhat cauliflowered from scrapping in the streets; however, in a recent adventure he was restored to full health by a Construct and is now free of any scars, calluses, or other acquired marks. He wears a Castillan military uniform (standard issue with jacket and trousers, etc, etc...) For lack of usage of other clothing in Eisen at the time, his citation is a bit muddy and tarnished and it is on his left lapel. He's got a stripe or two on his right arm from being a soldier. He wears riding boots and has a sword at his side. Ferdinand's most devoted friend is Tiny Lucas, a small dachshund dog he adopted in Freiburg.
The Knights of the Rose and Cross recently (Sextus 1669) agreed to consider his application for membership, so Ferdinand undertook the training. He could only to the name "Beggar John", had to wear the burlap clothes of an initiate, train in rigorous exercises for four hours at dawn and four hours before going to bed, could no use any weapon until given leave to do so by the Master of the Order, and must wait on his travel companions as a servant. He was also subjected to constant humiliations by Knights and Patrons of the Rose and Cross. In the end, disgusted, he turned away from the Order.
Or did he? Only the Comte de Sinjin knows the truth: Ferdinand is now a member of the Invisibles.
In thanks for his great services to Castille, he recently received a noble title and lands in his city of origin, La Reina del Mar, and a noble name.
