The Beast of Dechain dwells in the Dechaine River (the dual spelling is inherited from AEG, I take it to mean there is a Dechaine River and a place called Dechain near it.) It looks like a large serpent, capable of entangling a river boat. The Beast is apparently cunning enough to drive vessels onto the rocks to attack them more easily.
The heroes fought and survived a pitched battle against the Beast of
Dechain while they were travelling up the river aboard the Windy Bough,
a.k.a. River Mist, in the adventure of The Lady's Favour.
The strange thing, though, is that the Beast had violet eyes when it attacked
them – something no one else has ever reported.
