Aldana Steel
Constanza is a swashbuckling sailor and cartographer. Played by Sophie Lagacé.
Constanza is the daughter of a Castillan naval officer, Simeon Rivera de Orduño. Her mother died when Constanza was seven, and her father, unable to bear another separation, brought her with him, disguised as a ship's boy and later a midshipman. When she reached the age of twelve, old King Salvador's ill-conceived and ill-executed plan caused the destruction of the Castillan Armada, and with it Constanza's father. Constanza then went to live with the family of her uncle don Andrès Béjarano de Aldana and aunt Lucia. She had two cousins there exactly her age, Lucas and his twin Miranda; all three were born on the twenty-first day of Sextus, in the year 1647 AV. Constanza's best friend is doña Melisandre de Ramirez, whom she met when they were both students.
Although she's an orphan, Constanza is not dispossessed, but she still leads a life of wandering because she likes to travel. She likes sailing and exploring much better than being on the estancia; she now realises that she is not interested in the life of a proper Castillan lady. Her interests run to sailing, sciences, and exploration, and she is an avid reader. She relies on her sense of duty and moral compass to guide her through the storms of life.
In a whirlwind series of upheavals connected with the disputes over the succession of the throne of Castille, Constanza recently married King Javier in a secret ceremony. She has also been appointed as Commander of the King's Men.
Until it was recently sunk, Constanza commanded the lugger Maris Stella. She then had another vessel built to replace it, the frigate Osprey. She fights with pistols and rapier.
